Fun and Amazing Twinkie Heart Dessert for Valentine's Day

Having fun with Twinkies

Twinkies have been around since the 1930's and the original filling was a banana cream. They stopped making banana cream filling during WWII because of a shortage of bananas and made vanilla cream. They are once again making the banana cream although I am yet to see any banana cream Twinkies.

One Twinkie shortcake.

Twinkies used to have 150 calories but since the company filed Section 11 they have gone down to 135 calories and the size has decreased also. They did this because people are more health conscious and calorie conscious and they thought it would increase sales if they made the Twinkie more diet friendly. If a medium apple is 80 calories then maybe the extra 55 calories isn't so bad after all. Let's not even talk about the ingredients. :)

Anyway, I thought this was a fun dessert for Valentine's Day or, well, any day, really.

This heart shaped Twinkie is a lovely treat with cream and strawberries.

That's it in a nutshell, my friends. My other Twinkie desserts are just as nice.. you will love them.

The Blueberry Cheesecake Twinkies Shortcake was a big hit. It's beautiful, too. And easy! It's a refrigerator cake so it's made in under 10 minutes.

Cheesecake and Twinkies make this delicious refrigerator cake.

The Peanut Butter Chocolate Twinkie Smoothie is really smooth and there is only a 1/2 of a Twinkie in it.

A healthy version with Greek yogurt and peanut butter. Yum.

Deep Fried Twinkies - yes, you heard that right. Have you ever had them? They are unbelievable which is why they sell for $5.00 at carnivals. A few years ago when my daughter was blowing $15. on 3 of them, I said, "Let's make some" and that's how it started. It's really, really not hard. The hardest part is getting the fat to the right temperature, kinda like making doughnuts. If you have the right temperature the fat isn't absorbed as much by the doughnut...(oh, and don't make this if you have any issues digesting fats.)

Twinkies that are deep fried like at the carnival.

Hope you are having a great week, everyone. Be well.
