CUTE DIY Heating Pads

Last year I made cat heating pads so this year I wanted to do something again along this line. My niece called me last year and asked if she could have one of the kitty cat heating pads - she saw them on my blog. I said, "sure, take your pick". I made a number of them.

Anyway, doesn't this look inviting for the winter? A warm afghan, a heating pad and a hot cup of tea is perfect for a snowy day (and here in Connecticut we know we are going to get some, and probably many snow days).  A fire in the fireplace is the only thing that's lacking in this picture. :)

I cruised around the internet to see if I could come up with a good pattern for scotty dogs. I made a scotty pillow a few years back.

I made a pattern, here. You can right click and print it out. I don't know how to just have the outline of the scotty dog as then you wouldn't have to waste printer ink if you wanted to print and cut out the pattern. (Update: a reader, Christine, has outlined my pattern for you all. THANK YOU, Christine).

It's easiest sewing EVER. Just cut out the pattern from a nice fleece fabric so it's snuggly. Sew all around the outside leaving an opening under the tail so that you can pour in the rice. Seal it up by stitching the opening closed.

Working with fleece is great. It doesn't pull apart or ravel and it has some substance to it.

Hope this helps inspire you to make things for Christmas! Best wishes,
