Fabulous 4th of July Containers from Placemats

Easy July 4th Soft Containers from Placemats!!

I love making these containers from fabric but making them from placemats is so much easier... a few stitches and you're done.

Tutorial on how to make a bowl out of a placemat

I bought these placemats at Kohl's. They are so cheap right now. I love them. I didn't take a picture of the second placemat but you'll see the AFTER picture. :)

Fold over the placemat from the left to the right and make a stitch down the right side and across the bottom. Be sure to back tack so that the thread doesn't pull out.

Turn inside out...

Turn over one corner..

I put silverware in here but, of course, you could put anything in here. This looks like a mess. I tried to make it look kinda artsy but I guess it didn't come off that way...

Turn the placemat inside out and then fold down the top INTO the bag.

Now, if you don't want to use this placemat in this fashion, you can do this: Make it into a small bowl or container.

In order to turn a flat envelope type of thing into a 3 dimensional container with a square bottom, you have to go inside the container and  pinch the corners from the inside... like this:

I also turned a large envelope into a a square bottom gift bag here: It's a little clearer how the corner thing works.

Turn it inside out and fold the top down into the bag. Like this:

When you turn it inside out you have a square bottom container that will stand on its own.

Next time I'll show you what ELSE I put in these containers for the BIG PICNIC on the 4th that we're going to! OMG. These are so good that I was eating them as I was taking pictures. It's about a new recipe for S'MORES and I'm not that big of a fan of S'MORES either ...

See you then, everyone!
