Birdbath made from PVC Pipe

This is the easiest birdbath to make EVER!! It’s a piece of PVC piping glued onto a plastic tray that I bought from Joann Fabrics with a coupon!! So it’s cheap and it’s easy.... two really important things when contemplating a home DIY project! I wanted to give it some kind of a WOW factor so my daughter, Laura – greenhouse girl, suggested I paint a monogram on the pipe part of the birdbath. I’m glad I did because it definitely helped to give the birdbath some interest.

monogram

I browsed the internet for a “B”monogram and printed it out in the size I wanted.

I took a pencil and went over and over the back of the paper until it was dark with graphite.

I flipped over the paper and placed it over the PVC pipe in the place where I wanted the monogram. Then I proceeded to go over every line on the monogram pressing down hard so that it impresses on the PVC pipe. As I did so, the monogram design went onto the PVC pipe as if the back of the paper was carbon paper.

Once I had the design on the PVC pipe, I sprayed it with clear acrylic spray. This is so that  as I am painting and if I make a mistake I could wipe it off without removing the monogram design. I discovered this years ago when I was painting with oil paints and needed to have the design stay on. It’s helpful. Anyway, I used acrylic paints to fill in the design.

I started with PVC piping.... any size would be fine. I don’t remember what the size of the pipe is (I started this project last year, believe it or not). I would say it’s around a 5 inch diameter pipe. I also painted it because it had numbers printed on it that wouldn’t scrub off.

I like this Bin Primer because it’s alcohol based and dries in a minute.

Then I bought this plastic serving tray from Joann Fabrics.

Then I put some pretty glass accent gems to give color to the top of the tray also.

Here it is in the garden near all the pretty tulips.

The cherry tree was losing it’s blossoms so it’s raining cherry blossoms. The pond is filled with the little pink petals also.

Pink cherry blossoms on the pond. (the porch needs painting – hoping to get that done this week also.)
