Who wants to see some glorious flowering trees right now?

Arbor Day Foundation and some eye candy..
(getting no compensation for this post - looks like it, though as I talk about the Arbor Day Foundation a lot. They sent me some literature and I thought it might make an interesting post but now that I look at it, it seems like an advertisement).

Some flowering trees eye candy, that is...

I thought we could all use a little flowering tree therapy/eye candy right about now since we are in the dead of winter. The last few nights have been around 7 degrees here in Connecticut and that is really cold for us. We normally have 20's in January and February so we are in a deep freeze right now. I'd prefer snow to this cold, cold weather. We did get a dusting of snow tonight.

So let's talk about and think about a beautiful Spring with all the lovely flowering trees in bloom!

A few weeks ago, I got an offer in the mail from the Arbor Day Foundation.
I thought, 'what is the Arbor Day Foundation?'.
So I went online and found out.

The Arbor Day Foundation is an organization that inspires people
to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees.  Their members and partners are replanting forests and
helping make cities beautiful. Sounds good.

To have a membership it costs $10. for which you get:
*A six month membership to the Arbor Day Foundation.
*10 trees and 2 free Crapemyrtles
*A bimonthly newsletter which is a gardener's resource.
 *A book about trees
*And a 33% discount on some varieties of trees from their store.

Okay, I joined the Arbor Day Foundation.   They sold me and it's for a good cause.

(So now I'm looking forward to my 10 free trees and 2 free Crape Myrtle trees.)

This is a lilac tree...... pretty!

Then I decided to learn about ARBOR DAY.

Arbor Day is a day dedicated to public tree planting. The first Arbor Day was in Nebraska, April 10, 1872.  On that day they planted one million trees. Arbor Day is celebrated around the world now.

Want to find out when your state's Arbor Day is?

Go HERE to find out when Arbor Day is in your state. Florida's and Louisiana's Arbor Days are in January. Warm enough down there to still dig in the ground. Not Connecticut - although I did get all those bulbs I bought for 2 cents a package - in the ground. The ground was workable last week. It's not workable this week. Last night it was 7 degrees. Bitter cold.

Oh, I also found out what hardiness zone we're in. We are in a 6 or 7 zone. I think we're right on the line, actually. It's cold but not as cold as Massachusetts. Anyway, if you'd like to know YOUR hardiness zone for planting check it out HERE.

All these pretty pictures and prices are from the Arbor Day Foundation website. Please go over and check it out. It's MASSIVE amounts of information...

Here's my all time favorite - the Magnolia tree...

Then there's the (are you ready for this?)

Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure (it's a theme park for kids/families)

It's in Nebraska City, Nebraska which is a bit far for us to go.

I hope you all liked this pretty eye candy.

Thanks for coming and remember that
SPRING IS ONLY a few short months away!

  4. Sounds like it's a good cause, I don't blame you for wanting to talk about it! We live in such a small space, we have no room for planting trees, but I sure enjoy them in Spring! Enjoy your trees!

I so enjoyed it,knowing my trees would be planted and growing along the towns oban bus route which is a walking trail. I felt so good about it' Good cause Thank you for visiting me and your nice comment about my sewing room mantle. I'm posting about the rest of the room tidy up next week :)
