CHOWDER..... Mmmmmm...

Doesn’t that sound good? CHOWDER!
Until you mention...
                              it’s FISH CHOWDER

Then noses get turned up.
But I love it!
When I was in my 20’s I was always visiting my grandmother who lived a few towns away. During one visit she made fish chowder and
it was SO EASY and QUICK TO MAKE
and
TASTY!

chowder and crackers

I’ve been making this chowder on a regular basis since my Grandmother showed me how to make it, so I thought I would share it with you all (realizing that more than a few noses will be turned up).  :)   That’s okay. Hubster and son don’t like it either. I make hubster eat it because it’s good for him. Son won’t eat it.
Here are the ingredients:
Salt and Pepper
1 pound of Fish (or more)  and a few potatoes (or more)
I used tilapia because that’s what I had on hand. I usually use Cod Fish.

Fish

potatoes

I forgot to take a picture of an onion.
1 ONION, diced
Fry onion in a little olive oil until it’s transparent.

Now here is the interesting part. After frying the onions, my grandmother who didn’t measure anything, filled the medium sized pot (2 1/2 quart pot) half way with cold water. Then she added the potatoes and cooked until they were tender.
Keep the water boiling and add the fish. The water should cover the fish. If it doesn’t then add some water.

Cover and boil for a short time. It doesn’t take long to boil fish though – 10 minutes.

Here it is cooking, not looking great for someone who doesn’t like fish, huh?

Now it’s time to add the milk. How much milk? hmmm...
I’d say 2 ups of milk or a little less. Or you could add cream instead of milk.
A tablespoon of butter melting is nice looking, isn’t it?
A little Paprika adds warm color, too.

Here is the result:

Now, doesn’t it look good? It is good.
You can salt and pepper to taste.

Really, it’s good. Try it.
