Art Book Collection

Hi, everybody. This is a little embarrassing. These are my art books. About 10 years ago I was “into” painting, oil painting. I took classes in a nearby town with an “older” fella, Hank. What I learned in his classes I still use today for my photographs. Oh, for that matter, I still quote Hank to my kids. Hank says, “Let common sense prevail”. Now he WAS talking about painting and drawing, but still, it’s a useful quote, don’t you think?
LET COMMON SENSE PREVAIL
Okay, now we are going to enter into the NOT COMMON SENSE area in about one second. Here is my collection of “HOW TO” art books, how to draw, how to paint portraits, how to paint landscapes, etc.
This collection encompasses almost an entire bookcase. Oh, there are a few more stacks but I thought you’d get the idea from these pictures just how nuts I was interested I was in art books. I know, it’s over the top. It’s embarrassing. I beat Carol in overdoing something this time. She usually (about 90% of the time) can outdo me in obsessiveness. I just kept buying and buying all the books on art, in particular impressionism oil paintings. If I saw one I didn’t have I’d buy it. I have several more large volumes on Impressionism, too, but didn’t take pictures of those. My Mom has a saying, “Enough is enough.” These are definitely enough, don’t you think?

There are some great drawing books here. “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” was great. “How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci” was great, too. “The Natural Way to Draw” – learned a lot from that book. Lots of books I never read, of course. I did skim them, though. Does that count? Maybe this will inspire me to open some of these volumes of information. Do you think so?
Best wishes,

Here are a few of my paintings – one  I painted of my mother and one of Carol’s grandkids at the beach.

  1. You might find lots of good stuff in these books!
I think everyone can go overboard on an idea and
that is ok. If they aren't used they can be donated.
I am trying to learn to crochet so of course I have bought several books/manuals on learning to crochet. But I haven't done a thing with them.

    Your paintings are really good!

    1. I LOVED How to Think Like Leonardo DaVinci. I think you would, too. There are others. I wonder if you could get them from your local library... I know that in Connecticut a person can borrow a book from ANY library. I've done it, too. Sometimes it's worthwhile if I'm not sure I'll like the book. I also liked the book, Mozart and the Fighter Pilot. I think that was more about the brain, though. Very interesting stuff. Take care, Linda

  3. Wow a great stash of books, there's just something about books, the feel, opening them. I love book. It sounds like you have learned already from your books, and of course from Hank. I love your painting. One does not become Leonardo overnight! Thanks for sharing your creative inspiration with Sunday’s Best – you helped make the party a success!

    1. Thanks, Connie. I did buy them over about 10 years so they weren't all bought at once. That would be really bad, huh? Thanks for joining the conversation.
