Quick Vacation Journals

Have you ever picked up these cute vacation maps?
We just came back from a 3 day trip to Falmouth, Cape Cod, Massachusetts and, of course, I had to have several of these maps.
Normally they lay around for a while and then they just get thrown out. Well, I had this bright idea to sew this map into these Quick Journals I make.
It worked.  It was easy. It was quick.

The first thing I did was cut off the advertising so that it would be about the same size as the printer paper.

1. Gather your papers.

2. Make them all the same size.  (I didn’t belabor this – I used scissors.
You want something to remember the trip by so if you make it too big of a deal
by getting out the cutters and etc, it might not get done.
So cut everything to size quickly.

3. Fold them all in half.

4. Put them together in the order you want.

5. Stitch down the center of the fold on the sewing machine. It's best to use a large stitch to sew. Sometimes a small
stitch can shred the paper.

6. Label the front

Here I added a sand dollar and picture with the date so I know when I look at the cover what the vacation was and when.

My granddaughter, Faith, also made a cover for her vacation journal.

DONE!

We were close to a McDonald’s so we were there a lot. Faith said to make sure I mentioned it was a McDonald’s trip. :) We did eat at the fanciest (most expensive) place in Falmouth, Casino Wharf Saturday night. Thanks to Jamie, my son-in-law for the treat!!! He likes fancy places. I have to admit the food was fabulous, and a bit above McDonald's.

I printed out a few pictures of us. We went as a whole group, my two daughters, Jamie, my son-in-law, my grandkids, and even a few neighbors.

This is a little journal of our 3 day trip. It has all the particulars and some pictures. It will be fun to look back on in a few years with the kids. The kids will remember 2 things - McDonald's and the fancy restaurant.

I added a few details about the trip, room number because my daughter had a room that had wifi. I couldn’t get wifi from my room. I hate that. I felt so unconnected (disconnected?)!

Then I couldn’t resist using Photoscape to make a collage.

Cape Cod Falmouth

It was a very fun trip but too short…2 nights. We needed a third night to drive up the Cape Cod coastline. It’s so beautiful to see the cliffs of Truro. Oh, well, Falmouth was nice. The beach there didn’t have the big waves because that’s the sound of Martha’s Vineyard. Next time we are going to the Coast Guard Beach where it is wide open ocean (and cold water).
Best wishes for a great summer (Yes, there’s still some summer left. I’m trying to cram everything I can into the weeks ahead.)

  2. What a cute idea! It seems that it's never easy to put together a journal, especially for the kids, to remember those great moments at summer camp or family vacations. It also helps them with their writing skills, too. Thumbs up :)

  8. Great idea! I always save the maps from amusement parks and usually just add it to a scrapbook page. This is such a better idea. Thanks for adding this to my Our Favorite Things Link Party.

  10. This is such a great way to keep all the momentos together, much better than little bits of paper that get lost in the back of drawers! Great job :)
