Treasures from Saturday Tag Sales

I really needed more “stuff”. My family can tell you that! So, of course, I have taken up tag saling (yes, I’m using it like a verb"). I was out for about 3 hours today. I went to two estate sales which means the stuff is older and more expensive because it’s usually being conducted by a professional who takes part of the profits from the sale.
I’m happy with what I bought. I was just about done purchasing at this one estate sale and I looked in one small room of the house and lo, and behold, I saw 3 of the cutest little paintings. The woman running the sale said that her uncle painted the pictures. I would think that would make them quite old because she looked to be in her 60’s.
Around the supper table there was talk about how some famous paintings have been found that way – someone buys a painting and doesn’t know its worth. It turns out to be worth millions. I love those stories, don’t you? I wish it was the story in this case, but I sincerely doubt it since the woman running the sale knows her uncle painted it. Darn!

It came in this frame which I’m not crazy about.

Here is the second one.
032 (480x640)
Here is a close up. It came with the same kind of frame. I don’t know if I should paint the frame or take the painting out of the frame and just display it like that.

017 (480x640)
I loved these the moment I saw them. I paid $3. each! If I take them out of the frames I can use the frames to make more square wreaths! BONUS!
Then there was another smaller painting which I like so much. It was only $1. so naturally I bought it. I like the frame slightly better and I already hung it up in the living room.

This painting is interesting. Is that a Naval destroyer? My son thinks it’s a fishing boat. It’s in some kind of a cove with mountains in the background. Hmm..
I should have taken more time to talk to the woman who sold it to me. I could still go back tomorrow since it’s open Sunday also.
Then I bought a gorgeous afghan.
060 (480x640)
It has never been used. It’s in such pristine condition. I want to wash it but I’m wondering if it’s wool. I’d completely ruin it if I washed it.  Yea, I don’t know what to do.

I also bought this straw bag which will be my purse for the summer. I love it. And two little frames – I think I will paint them. Uh, oh, I just added more to the list of things I have to paint!

And this table which I thought would be good for the TV but then I noticed it has no shelf for the cable box, DVD player, etc. Well, I’ll find a spot for it. I’m using it right now for the laptop. See? I needed it!
zzzzzzC9561C493251B0E7B572C8A863B55985I had lots of fun tagging today and then my neighbor made me a cake for my birthday (today – May 5th), family came over for supper, everyone sang happy birthday to me and it was great.
Best wishes for Spring,

  2. Looks like you scored some great things!
The afghan is so pretty. I guess you could
take it to a cleaners and see what they say
    about it.

Hope you had a great birthday.

  3. Happy belated birthday to you; hope it was a good one. I would have bought those paintings also. I usually remove them from the frames when they're just too new or ugly to do the painting any justice. Looks like it was a very successful treasure hunting day. Thanks for sharing.
