Fabric/ribbon embellishment tutorial

The fabric embellishment is so "in" right now. In this tutorial I will try to show how to do this.

Okay, this tutorial is for this fiber embellishment which can "embellish" anything - clothes, pocketbooks, jackets, etc. You need a ring - either metal or plastic. I bought the 24 mm size rings which I think are a bit too small. Next time I'll go with the larger size. It isn't going to show anyway because it will be covered by a yoyo or button or both and it will give more room to pull through the fabric.

I cut the fabric strips 10" long by 1 or 1 1/4" wide. Then I fold the strip lengthwise and iron it so that it is now about 1/2 inch wide.

Then I fold it over and put the loop end into the ring as shown. Put the two ends of the fabric through the loop and pull tight.

Continue to add trims/ribbons/yard until you have the ring as full as you want.

Trim the ends on an angle.

Then try out different yoyos
(learn how to make yoyos without a yoyo maker here). The yoyo helps to cover all the loops of fabric, yarns, etc. Then I put on a button to top it up! Super cute, I think.

  2. It's a good thing you didn't put my attempt on there using a hair elastic (it doesn't work!)..
