Bloggers Quilt Festival!!

Six years ago we took a vacation to Maine - my sister and her husband and my husband and son and also our mother. When we got home I saw a quilt pattern with some moose on it. I thought that it would be a good start on a picture quilt of our trip to Maine so we designed this quilt around our vacation including the different lighthouses we visited while in Maine. I made some stencils (very easy to do - with a printer and some card stock and an x-acto knife - the stencils last surprisingly long even though they are just paper!). Anyway, we painted on the lighthouses and stencilled some trees and bears. Then I found some appliques and cool buttons at Joann's that seemed to fit like the seagull and crab buttons. We had lots of fun working on these quilts and they seemed to extend the vacation somewhat. Oh, we visited the Diana Card studio - she is an artist who paints primitive type paintings. so we painted that little studio in the quilt also. Oh, and see the cars? One is the tan van we had at the time (we have a white one now - I love vans) and my sister's red SUV. We put little tiny buttons for heads in the windows of the cars and painted eyes on them to depict the people who were in them. Mom was in my sister's car. Hope you enjoy this.

  2. I spent a lot of my younger years growing up in Maine. Pretty pretty state. I still miss the smell of pine and the salt from the ocean. If I close my eyes and it's really quiet, I can still smell it. Wierd huh. I love the lighthouses in the New England area as well. I also spent my even younger years in Boston, Ma. Along the Cape.. oh the lighthouses are just so gorgeous. Your quilt is very nice. I like it very much.

  5. Hi Linda, I was so very pleased to see that you had found my blog and then left comment to let me know that you had been there for a visit! I have been reading thru some of your newest posts, and I am just thrilled with what you have there! Your embroidery work is just exquisite!! Polka-dot embroidery, I have never heard of it, but I have been checking it out and it is just delightful! I was over to you Etsy shop, and I can not tell you enough how lovely your baby items are. I will have to mark you so that I can find the shop again, a good friend of mine is expecting her second granddaughter in May, and your items would be just perfect!! I loved seeing pictures of your Mom's house, at 100 she is just amazing, and I LOVE the style of her home. It shouts out to one, "welcome in". I have always dreamed of having my own home decorated so prettily like that, but somehow it never happened. The styles here in Germany are so different, not quite as pastel-color-y (is that even a word, not sure, but it suits what I am trying to say. :-) )and the rooms are not frilly in the least here.

Anyway, I will be back again, because I am thoroughly enjoying your blog. Very nice!! take care, and fond regards from across the ocean, Debby (Maine really IS a gorgous state, I was just telling my hubby recently that I would like to show it to him one of these days).
