Refurbishing a White Wicker Rocker

Refurbishing a White Wicker Rocker!

I've got about 4 wicker chairs and a wicker rocker that have been white forever. I'm sick of it. I want color so I'm in the process of painting all my wicker. I started with this white rocker...

Very boring and colorless.

I played around with different colors and even spray painted the entire rocker with what I thought was a light aqua spray paint but it was just too dark, not right at all. I went to Walmart (they have a really good selection of spray paint colors by Krylon) and I found this paint and thought I'd give this  one a try.... blue ocean breeze!

I came home and sprayed over the darker color and it lightened it so much... a true light aqua... I could even have seen a paler and slightly greener color but I'm really happy with this.

This is the color of the rocker now. Much, much better, don't you agree? (I didn't want to show the floor of the porch since it hadn't been scrubbed yet from winter... but there it is.)

Anyway, I went to Joann's Fabrics and found some paisley fabric that added some zing to the chair also. (I actually picked out enough fabric for 6 pillows for the couches in the living room - and made them one night while visiting my mother. They were easy, easy, easy. I bought the 20 inch pillow forms, bought 22 inches of each different fabric, went home and cut the fabric into 22 inch squares and sewed them all around - right sides together, of course - turned them inside out and shoved the pillow form in there. I stitched the pillow closed by machine, but stitching by hand is okay, too.)

I'll show the pillows another time, but I am so sick of my couches. I so want new ones but I might try to make slipcovers for the ones I have. We'll see....

Anyway, here are a few more pictures of the refurbished rocker...

I might do all of the wicker in the gazebo this color. Several years ago we bought a gazebo from Lancaster, PA. My sister lives not too far from there so we always go to "the Amish country" when I visit. It's always a pleasant day trip, lots to see and, of course, eating out. :) Anyway, the gazebo was delivered on a flatbed truck. I saw it drive right by my street and I had to get in the car and chase it down the main road...

I'm liking this so much.

  4. It is so funny that you chose that color because when I first saw the first photo the first thought that went through my head was that it would look good in aqua or turquoise! :)
