Valentine Flour Sack Towels

Valentine Flour Sack Towels

I love the idea of using flour sacks. My grandmother made a quilt from flour sacks. She cut squares from the flour sacks and then used old shirts and dresses for the pieces she appliqued on the top. She made enough squares for one quilt and I have the leftover squares, about 10 of them. I just love looking at them. Maybe that would be another interesting post?

Anyway, the idea of using flour sacks is romantic, nostalgic.

Here's my take on the Valentine towel.

I bought some Valentine cookie cutters and have been having lots of fun with them. In this project, I dipped the cookie cutter in paint to stamp the towel.

I didn't have any small heart stamps so I carved some out of a potato. Yep. I've always wanted to try that. It's easy. I cut a potato in half, drew on a heart and then carved everything away from the heart. Dipping the two little potato stamps in acrylic paint, I stamped all over the flour sack towel. I had a lot of fun doing this. You can see the heart stamps in this picture. I thought I had more pictures of this project...

I bought the flour sacks on Amazon and they are very reasonable. (You probably have the potatoes). ha ha

I put one of my rosettes on top. (It's all about the pictures, huh?)

This would also be a great project for kids to make as gifts for grandmothers, aunt, etc.

Have a great day, everyone.

Best wishes,

  7. How lovely, I agree, romantic and nostalgic. I love the way you used what you had, ie cookie cutter and potato!
I would love to see your Grandma's quilt and your extra squares. I admire people who quilt SO much, it just seems like such an enormous project.
