My previous post is about making pretty cotton dog collar covers.  As you can see, Molly has a variation of the cotton collar on. Angel hasn’t gotten hers yet but I’m working on it (in my mind, that is :)
In the last 4 months, my family has adopted 3 dogs from the South, the first being a really cute, small girl Pomeranian/Sheltie mix. My daughter, Laura got her from one of the rescue leagues here in Connecticut. Since she was a puppy she was $500. It really does seem like a lot of money for a rescue but she’s turned out to be the smartest dog ever! My young son is training her and she’s an excellent student. I think she could do Dog Agility – she’s that smart. Here she is;

Angel
Here is our “angel”. We’ve had her for 2 weeks now and she is very well behaved. Her name was Delilah but I let my granddaughter rename her and so her name is “Angel”. She is a very sweet and gentle dog about 1 year old. She’s got her pink scarf on.


The Nutmeg Rescue had a picture of her on http://www.petfinder.com. The ad read something like this “Adoptable dog in Branford CT” but then you keep reading down the listing and see that the dog is actually in the deep south somewhere and needs to be brought up by a dog transport company. We got in touch with the Nutmeg Rescue, they even had a video of Delilah (now Angel) and for the price of $175. we were able to adopt her. It was another $185 for the transport from Texas to Connecticut which I thought was reasonable due to the price of gas. So now we have the sweetest dog north of the Mason-Dixon line.  My granddaughter says that she is her little angel dog. How sweet! 
Here is Ace. He came with the name Mr. P. The name gave a bit of concern if you know what I mean, but he's doing well acclimating ... not having too many accidents. :)

Daughter number 2 started looking for a dog in the Humane Societies of Texas until we found a dog we liked. This is a pure Australian Shepherd boy, very very smart and calm also. Surprise, because they are usually quite active. I called the Humane Society (Young County) and they were very nice when I said I wanted to get a dog and have it transported up here to Connecticut. It was $75. to adopt and $250. to ship. He was very shaggy when we got him Saturday and we took him to the groomer’s right away because he had fleas. I wish I had a picture of what he looked like before! He’s gorgeous here, isn’t he?

You, too, can adopt a rescue dog. There are many more dogs in the south that need rescuing because, as I was told, they don’t spay/neuter their dogs.
You can go on Petfinder.com and put in your zip code and chances are good that the dog you want is in the south. Of course, you can visit local shelters and pounds and the dogs are right there, too, no waiting. Or you can visit kill shelters in the southern states. They have pictures of the dogs and they give the DATE THE DOG WILL BE EUTHANIZED!!  One place gave each dog 3 days to be adopted before they were euthanized. This is so sad. At least we rescued 3 of them! And we're really happy with our three new members of the family...
